So I'm thinking about writing a book on retail (don't worry I won't mention the store or any employee names or customers). It'll focus mainly on the important relationship we have as not just employees but as members of your second family as it were. The GOOD members. The ones that make you feel happy to be there and you want to keep going not just for the items at the store but maybe even most importantly the people working there. You'll read a few stories and maybe shed a tear or two.

This, for example, could be a chapter:

CHAPTER THREE: Things Customers Say

Now don't get me wrong. I LOVE helping the public.  You guys are the bloodstream for our workplace.  Without you we wouldn't be functioning but there are some moments when I..well…here: :)

You know you work retail when you hear these:

“You look like you’re starting slow.”

“Are you working?”

“Are you leaving?”

“Are YOU the only one open?”

“Just when you thought it was safe to go on break.”

“It looks like you’re resting.”

“Who wants the job?”

Want something to do?

“Are you having fun?”

“Since you’re doing nothing.”

“Gotta give you some work.”

“You guys look like you’re having too much fun.”

Not getting a break there, huh?

3/18/25: “waiting? Don’t want you to be bored.”

“You guys look so bored today.”

“You look bored so I’m gonna give you something to do.”

“I didn’t want you to get bored.” 9/24

“I’ll keep you from being bored.”

“You look so bored.”

“I see you look bored.”

“Bored?”

“Am I bored?”

“Are you bored out of your mind?”

“I won’t let boredom kill you.”

“I’ll let you do the work.”

“Looks like Dave needs something to do.”

“You look like you have nothing to do” 2/24/24

“You look bored like you need something to do.”

“Since you’re just standing there.”

“Standing here all by yourself?”

“Well… you’re just standing there.”

“I don’t wanna stand around too long.”

“We don’t want him standing here with nothing to do.”

“I see you standing around, can’t have that.”
